In today’s world it’s all about fast lanes and personal satisfaction. I think that’s why the Farmhouse Style and the lifestyle that it inspires has gotten our attention. We are attracted to the simplicity of it all. It ties us back to our past by connecting memories of our childhood, and the childhood we want our kids to have. It allows us time to reminisce on where we came from, who we are and who we want to become. It’s about heritage and much more than that, it’s about slowing down.
For me, Farmhouse style means simplicity, clean lines, light colors, screen doors, farm sinks, gardens, fresh flowers, the sound of kids running through the house, bare-footed children fishing in the pond, muddy feet, rain boots, books from the past, squeaky wood floors, the wind howling around the windows, rain on the tin roof, fall leaves falling from the trees, cushy pillows, big porches and rocking chairs, the smell of chicken and dumplings cooking on the stove, and just a calm state of mind.
If you have read my blogs you know that I am all about “feeling”. Every room I walk in speaks to me with emotion and feeling. So what do you want people to feel when they walk through your doors? I want people to smell fresh clean scents. I want them to see old things mixed with finds from my past that tell a story of who I am, who my family is—That’s why I love the Farmhouse look.
But it’s important to make your Farmhouse style your own because whether you realize it or not, Farmhouse style can be a lot of things—whether you want to create a more cultivated style with lots of found items from around the world or create an easier look with items you find at Target. So will it be a Country Living farmhouse? Clean and Rustic farmhouse? Industrial farmhouse? Modern farmhouse? Shabby Chic farmhouse? American Folktale farmhouse? It’s never just all white hues and reclaimed wood.
My Farmhouse style is in it’s own category altogether—It’s a combination of french, beach, industrial and modern styles. But that is the beauty of “style”, you don’t have to follow the rules…do what you love. Do what makes you feel good! Don’t even worry about trying to label your style. That’s not always easy to define so just go with it.
Sound like something you need a little more of in your life? Then slow down and jump into the Farmhouse lifestyle. And there’s no need to get overwhelmed by the thought of “re-doing” your look, I’ll show you easy ways you can join the Farmhouse club in my next blog post!
